History

The Association Ministry Committee of the Owen Sound Association became concerned about the number of Lay Pastors in the Association not receiving any formal theological instruction. The matter was raised with the Executive Minister of the Convention and, following some discussion, the AMC was instructed to begin formatting a program to meet this need. Some guidelines were given including limiting the courses to eight in number.

The Atlantic Convention, already successfully running a similar program, was used as a template. After some years of working and discussing the proposed program with Convention officers, the Lay Pastor's Training Program began in the fall of 2008. The first five students graduated from the program in the spring of 2010.
